Urban Forestry Oak Release Monitoring in the Willamette Valley

Oswego Lake Watershed Council sought aerial imagery and mapping to help steward the Westlake Oak Woodland. Primarily composed of Oregon White Oak (Quercus garryana), with pockets of fast-growing Ash that interfere with the health of oak trees, Westlake was undergoing treatment to restore the characteristics of an oak savanna, one of the most endangered ecological communities in the Pacific Northwest.

Results

ForeSight collected pre-treatment aerial imagery to create a high-resolution orthomosaic (71 acres at 3.0 cm/pixel) and digital elevation model (DEM) for detailed monitoring and change-detection (e.g. oak canopy cover %, canopy height change over time). Additionally, B-roll video was collected for communication and promotion of the Westlake Oaks project. An interactive 3D Story Map enhances community outreach and education.
